Stop in to 2nd Street Bakeshop & Coffee Co. for a cup of hot or cold coffee, baked goods, or lunch where you can sit out on the front porch and watch the cars drive by on highway. And if you wanna stay a little longer, they have a boutique AirBnB upstairs in the early 1900’s Victorian house. Another option for a great cup of coffee is Buzzed Brumby, situated across from Hico Mercantile in an open air space full of charm and history. Buzzed Brumby has cold and hot coffee drinks, hot tea, breakfast sandwiches and more. And coming soon, they will be serving wood-fired pizza on-site.

After working up an appetite after a long day shopping and exploring in Historic Hico, Texas, stop by Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant for pizza, sandwiches, and pasta specialties. Giovanni’s makes their dough in-house, so you can be sure you’re getting a fresh pizza every time. If you’re looking for a place to sip a beer while shopping for men’s clothing, stop by Green Canoe Outfitters next to Hico Mercantile. They have eight beers on draft and over 20 cans of unique beers to choose from. If you’re looking for a great Instagram photo background, don’t skip the historic Coca-Cola hand painted sign on the side of Eis Sandwich Shop.

WHERE TO EAT HEALTHY IN HICO, TEXAS 

Over the years Hico has undergone a slow and steady growth with new businesses and restaurants calling Hico home. One newcomer to the Hico dining scene is Goin2BeHealthy, where you can get loaded nutritional teas, smoothies, bowls, and house made lunch specials. Another place to grab some healthy food is Flacas Bodega & Eatery. Flacas has recently updated their dining room, including adding more seating and draft beers. Stop by Flacas for daily lunch specials, salads, wraps, sandwiches and more.

GRAVEL BIKING IN HICO, TEXAS 

Hico has become a destination for gravel bike enthusiasts. Started last year, Gravel Locos is a gravel bike race featuring three different courses with professional and novice riders traveling from all of over the country to experience and be part of this special event. The course starts in downtown Hico and winds throughout the northern Hill Country, traverses low water crossings along the way, and ends in downtown Hico.

EXPLORE HICO, TEXAS 

If you’ve been down tree-lined Pecan Street in the last few years you’ve probably noticed the big red HICO sign in the middle of downtown, which is a great photo opportunity for travelers and locals alike. Another great place to explore is upstairs in Blue Star Trading where you’ll find the Hico Retrospective Museum. The museum tells the history of Hico through photography from the early 1900’s. On display is an old desk from the original Post Office along with many other artifacts for you to explore. Don’t wander off without checking out the fantastic art by Jerry McAdams, Wyman Meinzer, Jon Fleming and more, downstairs in Blue Star Trading.

WHERE TO STAY  IN HICO, TEXAS

Stop by their Market on the Porch and grab something to go, whether you are staying in town or just passing through. And while you’re shopping downtown, pop in to Hico Popcorn Works, where they make specialty popcorn in house. With so many different flavors to choose from, savory, sweet, it’ll be hard to choose just one.

EXPLORE HICO HISTORY 

If you’re strolling down Pecan Street it’s hard to ignore the many historic buildings clad with hand painted murals from a time gone-by. It’s like taking a step back in time, and speaking of history, make sure to visit the Billy the Kid Museum to learn all about the infamous outlaw Billy the Kid, or as the locals knew him, Brushy Bill Roberts.
