Road Trip to Hico, Texas

Only an hour from Waco, an hour and 20 minutes from Fort Worth, and two hours from Austin, Hico makes for a perfect road trip for anyone looking to get out of the city and two-step into country life.

THINGS TO SEE IN HICO, TEXAS

Hico Sign
Get that perfect Instagram worthy pic at our life-size Hico sign, in the middle of downtown Historic Hico. Just hold up that dot to complete the “i” in Hico.

Art
Hico is full of great art, from the nostalgic to the new. Walk around town and you’ll see several vintage murals painted on our brick and limestone buildings, including a couple from Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper. Stop in Eis, Blue Star Trading, and many more local shops for one-of-a-kind paintings and sculptural art. And keep an eye out for Live Local Artist Jerrel Sustaita, who can be seen around town painting anything from Western landscapes to live music. You can’t drive through town without seeing the larger-than-life metal spur.

Wildflowers
The Texas landscape is full of beauty, and Hico is no exception with it’s rolling hills. Drive out of town in any direction and you’re sure to spot wildflowers blooming, enjoying the Texas sun.

Hico Mercantile
What was once an opera house in the late 1890’s, Hico Mercantile is now a collection of shops in Historic Hico, Texas. Shop for furniture, clothing, decor and more. While you’re there, stop by Green Canoe Outfitters, a men’s shop and taproom serving ice cold beer on tap with a food truck, Dos Burros Smokeshack and Cocina on the outdoor patio.

EVENTS IN HICO, TEXAS

The Texas Steak Cookoff
We just wrapped up our 20th Annual Texas Steak Cookoff here in Historic Hico, Texas, and boy was it a good one! Join us on the 3rd Saturday of May next year for appetizers, ribeye steaks, and good times. You don’t wanna miss this event!

Live Music at HiCo Hall
Historic HiCo Hall is a venue for weddings, live music, events and more. Lately, some great artists have made their way to Hico, Texas to play some tunes and put on a good show, including Uncle Lucius, Red Shahan, and Jackopierce. Check out their website for a full list of events.

Gravel Locos
Cyclists from all over the world descended upon Hico, Texas on May 20th this year for Gravel Locos, a gravel bike race in and around the beautiful hills of Hico. Professional and novice cyclists test their strength on the 150 mile, 110 mile, 60 mile, and 30 mile routes that traverse rivers, hills, and lots of gravel.
