Wineries in Hico, Texas
There are plenty of fun things to do and unique places to shop, eat, and stay in Historic Hico, Texas, including two top notch wineries. In downtown on tree-lined Pecan Street, you’ll find Silver Spur Winery, where you can sip on award winning wine. And just outside of town in the beautiful Central Texas hill country sits Bull Lion Ranch And Vineyard, a working ranch, vineyard and tasting room.
Silver Spur Winery
Silver Spur Winery is a boutique winery in the heart of historic downtown Hico, Texas. Owner Phil Vasquez is a native Texan that had the privilege of living in Santa Rosa, California on Olivet Road for 25 years. With help from his close neighbors and winemakers he has gained the knowledge and understanding of the wine industry. Now back at home in Texas he brings the styles of wine and wine making crafts from the region of Sonoma County to the Texas Wine Industry.
At Silver Spur Winery, choose from a selection of Rose, Tannat, Muscat, Verdelho, Tempranillo, and Zinfandel. You can sip your wine by the glass, by the bottle, or to experience a wide range of the wines they offer, you can do a wine tasting that includes five wines.
What people are saying about Silver Spur Winery
My favorite place set in the charming heart of Hico. At my 1st visit, the wine tasting made it impossible to choose a favorite. I’m a red lover but found myself fond of the whites and rose wines. But, you can’t go wrong with the Tennat and Tempranillo. I can never leave without a case in hand. The staff is lovely. Silver Spur is officially my favorite winery.

A cute tasting room in the charming town of Hico. We were pleased to find a selection of local Texas wines that are not sweet! Even the window on the sign advertises “dry wines!” High five for us! We sampled a couple of reds, but opted to share a bottle of Aglianico Rosé, which was bursting with strawberry, medium body, yet still crisp. We paired it with their charcuterie, perfect to accompany our wine for a pre-dinner treat. The gals were super friendly and super knowledgeable. We had a wonderful experience.

The Silver Spur Winery is a fun place to visit. Try a flight of wines. The owners are super friendly and accommodating. The obvious reason for 5 stars is the quality of the wines. It’s a must go to.

Bull Lion Ranch And Vineyard
Bull Lion Ranch & Vineyard has been a working ranch for over 25 years, primarily as a Registered Red Angus and Performance Paint Horse operation.
In 2010 they began a new adventure in the vineyard and wine business, but their families from Italy have been growing wines for over 100 years. This family tradition continues today near Hico, Texas, producing old world wines from 100% Texas grapes.
We chose to plant in the rocky portion of our Texas ranch land to emulate the vineyards of Italy. The characteristics of our high mineral content soils bring out a unique, old world character in our Bull Lion Ranch wine. Their grape varieties include: Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tempranillo and Pinot Grigio. These varieties are typically grown on the Mountain sides of Italy, Spain and Argentina which mirrors the environment here in the Central Texas Hill Country.
The tasting room at Bull Lion Ranch & Vineyard is open on Saturday from 12-7pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. You can also visit their other locations in Glen Rose, Granbury, and Grapevine. In addition to their many tasting room locations, you can also visit the Hico location to take a stroll through the vineyard meandering trail.
For a taste of Bull Lion at home, they offer an exclusive wine club where you can sign up to have their wine delivered to your door.
