Billy the Kid Film Festival
Kicking things off this fall is the Billy the Kid Film Festival, November 1-2, 2019. Set in different venues in downtown Hico, the festival will bring some of the best indie films to the Texas Hill Country. Buy a pass and see every film, or see just one film of your choosing.
Go Climbing at Siloville
Housed in a converted grain silo turned climbing gym, climbing at Siloville is the perfect fall activity for reaching new heights. Siloville has climbing walls on the inside and outside of the silos, a ropes course, zip line, and is suitable for kids, adults, beginners and expert climbers. Make it to the top for the best view of the town, and instant bragging rights with your friends or family.
*Siloville is closed in August and September, and re-opens in October 2019
Take a Hike!
Take a leisurely stroll on the tree-lined walking trail that meanders along the Bosque River, or have a picnic lunch at one of the many covered tables overlooking the river. Perfect for jogging or biking, the trail is paved and is easily accessible, just north of the Hico City Park.
You’re sure to work up an appetite, so be sure to stop by 2nd Street Provisions for lunch, a fresh baked good, or a great cup of coffee.
Stage a Mural Photoshoot
What better way to document your weekend get-away to Hico than to find the perfect spot for an Instagram photo? Hico is a small, friendly Texas town full of historic charm, with vintage murals and photo ops around every corner, including rustic landscape paintings, and a vintage Coca-Cola mural.
Take a break from your photoshoot at Jersey Lilly’s Mexican Restaurant for tacos, enchiladas and more. While you’re there, make sure and browse the murals that adorn the walls.
Play Golf at a Vintage 1920's Course
Boasting a vintage 1920’s 9-hole golf course, the Bluebonnet Country Club is a well manicured hidden gem in Hico, Texas. After playing a round of golf, cool off in the swimming pool, or bring your racquet for a game of tennis. There is also a cabin for rent overlooking the pond, and a charging station for electric vehicles.
Play a Round of Disc Golf
Test your frisbee throwing skills at the City of Hico’s 18-hole disc golf course. Surrounded by large pecan trees, and overlooking the Bosque River, the course is over 6,000 feet long.
Play Paintball in a Mini Tank
Minitank Battlefield Paintball is a 66 acre paintball park featuring one-of-a-kind mini tanks and 4-wheelers mounted with paintball guns. Test your aim against opponents or on the driving course with static targets.
Go Hunting with Sierra Mesa Ranch
Sierra Mesa Ranch is a trophy whitetail hunting ranch offering hunts for whitetail deer, blackbuck antelope, and turkey. Work on your aim at the shooting range, or sit out around the fire pit and gaze at the starry night at the hunter’s cabin.
The Texas Steak Cook Off
The Annual Texas Steak Cookoff in downtown Hico, Texas is a can’t miss meat extravaganza. Backyard cooks from all over the state get the chance to claim the title of best steak cook in Texas. Walk the streets of downtown Hico and sample all of the delicious appetizers, and stick around for a Ribeye steak dinner with all the fixins. With live music, dancing, and a corn hole tournament, there is something for everyone at The Texas Steak Cookoff.
While you’re in town, don’t forget to stop by Flacas Fitness and Brews for a healthy salad and smoothie (to make you feel good about all the steak you’ll be eating). A trip to Hico isn’t complete without a stop at Wiseman House Chocolates to satisfy your sweet tooth.

At Flacas Fitness and Brews, enjoy open mic night on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 pm—10 pm, and live local music on Saturday from 1 pm—4 pm. Food specials are available on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as the fantastic main menu including wraps, salads, sandwiches, pitas and more.

You can’t miss talented musical artist Jon Young at The Chop House in The Midland Hotel on Thursday nights at 6:30 pm. Stop in for a steak, perfectly cooked burger, or hand crafted cocktails and enjoy the atmosphere.

Head out to Bull Lion Ranch Winery & Vineyard every third Saturday for live music, wood fired pizza by Texas Dough Slinger, and of course, wine!
Various Events
Other events throughout the year with live music include The Texas Steak Cookoff, held the third weekend in May in historic downtown Hico, Texas. The Old Settler’s Reunion is held every July in the Hico City Park, and has fantastic live music at the outdoor amphitheater.
